"National Peace Foundation (NPF) strives to contribute to a more peaceful world by supporting a network of citizen peace builders, by laying the foundation of civil society and by advocating rational policy making that benefits the global common good.
As Executive Board member of NPF, I direct Middle East educational projects. Our accomplishments over the past three years include:
- Two successful state tours, in partnership with Partners for Peace, of the "Jerusalem Women Speak: Three Women, Three Faiths, One Shared Vision." These tours bring one Muslim, one Jew and one Christian to share their experiences and hopes for a just peace. Their frank discussions break taboos, dispel myths and shatter illusions-all elements essential to fostering change.
- NPF is the recipient of two US State Department grants in the form of cultural exchange programs entitled "Religion and Society" which are intended to enhance mutual understanding among the people of the Middle East and the people of the US. The goal is the promotion of inter-religious dialogue and the compatability, in theory and practice, of religion in a demcoratic social and political structure and the vitality that grows from mutually respective coexistence among diverse religious comunities.
- In partnership with Interfaith Peace Builders, I will be co-leading a delegation to Israel-Palestine in March '08 to meet Palestinian and Israeli peacemakers, leaders of civil society and ordinary Israelis and Palestinians. Future trips are planned. Those interested are urged to contact journeys@nationalpeace.org
